The Kinks - Big Sky
Prolly my favorite Kinks song. Some people on songmeanings think it’s about god, or our insignificance in the universe. Given that it was on Village Green Preservation Society I think it might be an urban/country type thing. Great guitar work anyway.

Fantastic.

Jefferson Airplane - Somebody to Love (as covered by the Ramones). The repeated chorus of “Don’t you want somebody to love”, the pace, and generally upbeat tune manage to mask some pretty depressing imagery. The Ramones play this one fairly straight, but I love hearing Joey’s distintive accent on these well-worn lyrics.
When the truth is found to be lies
And all the joy within you dies
When the dawn’s rose may be dead yes
And your mind your mind is so full of red
Your eyes, I say your eyes may look like his
But in your head baby I’m afraid you don’t know where it is
Tears are running running down your breast
And your friends baby they treat you like a guest

you finally learn the lyrics to that bright jangly song are about addiction and suicide or the mournful goth sludge describes an ecstatic moment

Six Organs of Admittance - Hazy SF
Pretty song from Six Organs off the Golden Apples of the Sun compilation. Ben Chasny’s acoustic guitar playing at its best.

It’s a real fuggin’ shame that he died… sure it is… I don’t wish-a-dyin’ on anyone. However, this little scrote wrote some great tunes and as such, everyone is far too sentimental to see what really happened. Two junkies got together and one died. It’s pretty simple. So, Nirvana fans, next time you see a smackhead, make sure you treat them with some Exotic Reverence and pander to the ‘misunderstood’ because if you don’t, WWKD?* Just face it, Kurt pulled the trigger because he was hopeless. He wasn’t pushed… he jumped.
